Eriskey Ponies for sale

Eriskay ponies are a certified breed from the Outer Hebridean Islands of Scotland. Before the days of tractors these ponies were used by the crofters for riding, ploughing and carrying. They were greatly valued as an important asset to the family. They are a charismatic, easy-going, people-friendly breed rising to 13.2 hands. They are particularly good for children, being narrow and comfortable to sit on, yet they are strong and capable of carrying small adults.

Sheila McKinnon-Wood is now breeding Eriskays on the Island of Coll. Sheila is recognised as one who has helped save the Eriskay from extinction and she has built up a sizeable herd of top quality registered Eriskay ponies.

Ponies are brought over to the mainland where Shuna Shaw who trains them is an assiciate instructor with the Silversand Natural Horsemanship programme and a current student of Eleanor Taylor.

They gain a wealth of experience in riding out, both alone and in company, learning to be well-mannered, sensible and sensitive to the aids. They become accustomed to traffic, other animals and children. Thay also learn to socialise with the resident herd.

Ponies are available at various stages of training. If you are interested in buying one or would like further information please contact Shuna 01852 200564 or 07960 014646
